Barco introduces new cross-cockpit collimated display system with larger unobstructed field of view
Kortrijk, Belgium, 29 November 2011 – Barco, the leading independent manufacturer of visualization solutions for the training and simulation industry, has unveiled a new cross-cockpit collimated display system. The CD-2260 platform features an unobstructed 225° horizontal and 60° vertical field of view, along with uniform resolution and geometry across the complete projected area. With the highest image quality available on the market today, the new Barco CD-2260 offers the closest experience to real cross-cockpit flying.
For over 25 years, Barco has been a trusted partner and supplier for the training and simulation industry, offering a wide portfolio of projectors and visualization systems. In 2006, the company released its first cross-cockpit collimated display system for both civil and military aviation training. “For the new CD-2260 collimated display system, we've built on our years of experience and our expertise in leading-edge professional visualization solutions to offer the most convincing side-by-side cockpit visualization system on the market today,” says Steven Ooms, Director Product Management in Barco's Control Room & Simulation Division. “This new system stands out for its excellent uniform visual quality across the wide field of view. To match particular platforms, the CD-2260 collimated display can be delivered with a vertical bias of +30°/-30° (typically for fixed wing training) or +20°/-40° (typically for rotary wing training).”Designed to perform
The most critical component to design in a collimated display system is the large 11-foot radius mirror that presents the out-the-window images at optical infinity to the pilots in training. In order to design this spherical metalized film mirror optimally, Barco uses a unique closed-loop design process around its proprietary SimCAD design software to accurately predict visual system performance. The iterative cycle of design, predict, build, measure, model and feedback allows the engineers to optimize the various system components and fine-tune the overall system design – resulting in unmatched collimating performance, improved sweet spot for the pilots, and a wider range of pilot eye point (PEP) separations and hence a larger range of possible cockpit configurations. These technical achievements contribute to the wider range of training tasks that can be performed in a CD-2260-based simulator.
Highest performance with optimal uptime
The CD-2260 uses five Barco SIM 7QP projectors with Liquid Crystal on Silicon (LCoS) technology. These projectors, designed exclusively for the training and simulation market, offer near eye-limiting resolution, extremely high contrast, NVG stimulation, and special smearing reduction to ensure crisp projection of fast-moving objects. The CD series systems meet, or exceed, the certification requirements of aviation administrators around the world, including the FAA and EASA.
In addition to offering the most realistic flying experience, the CD-2260's design also ensures the highest possible uptime. Easily and safely accessible during maintenance, the projectors can be replaced within one hour. With its XDS RACU display management suite, Barco offers a number of unique tools for aligning and maintaining multi-projector installations. These include projector setting backup & restore, and re-alignment – which considerably shorten the time needed to install and service simulator projects.
Support through Barco's global network
The CD-2260 collimated display system is designed to be easily deployed around the world. Customers and end users can rely on Barco's global network of sales and services offices for local support. They benefit from a range of professional services to maximize their return on investment for Barco's high-quality visual systems, and ensure a long-term satisfaction on uptime and performance.
Barco has already received a number of orders for the CD-2260 collimated displays systems. The first project will be delivered in early 2012.
