STIHL chooses BarcoCIM for US facility production management
Stihl Inc., a leading manufacturer of power tools, recently decided to install BarcoCIM in the metalworking, extrusion and blow molding departments of their Virginia Beach manufacturing facility. The modular approach of the BarcoCim system offers a real time solution for machine monitoring, production planning and quality management.
Stihl Inc. manufactures the world's largest selling brand of chain saws and cut-off machines and produces a complete line of powerful, light-weight and versatile handheld outdoor power equipment for homeowners and professional users. The BarcoCIM system will be interfaced with Stihl's ERP system (SAP), which handles resource planning throughout the plant. Order information will be automatically downloaded to the BarcoCIM shop floor planning module, and production information from BarcoCIM will be sent to the ERP system at regular intervals, insuring up to the minute status on orders and material usage.
In the first phase of the project, 42 machines will be equipped with Barco’s DU8P data collection terminal. This data unit continuously monitors cycle time, run time and stop time, stop causes and counts actual production. The flexibility of the BarcoCIM software will allow individual users to quickly access the information that is most critical to their areas of responsibility, thereby improving machine and labor utilization.
