Barco and VisioWave deploy fully digital video display solution for INDRA-EFACEC consortium in the surveillance and traffic control system for BRISA motorways (Portugal)
APS, Paris (France), 23 September 2003 - VisioWave and Barco Control Rooms join forces to provide a state-of-the-art video surveillance over IP product to be deployed by BRISA, the largest motorway operating company in Portugal, as part of their global motorway security and traffic control system. This contract confirms VisioWave and Barco’s leadership position as a supplier of industrial-grade network digital video surveillance solutions over IP for large sites and the great success of the integration of their respective solutions, the VisioBox and Barco’s iTraffic.
Responsible for the operation of more than 1000 km of motorways, linking Portugal from North to South and West to East, Brisa is a Portuguese company ranking by own merit among the largest private motorway operators in Europe. Brisa established high technical and managing standards regarding the construction, maintenance and operation of the 11 motorways under its operation. Brisa was one on the first companies to deploy automatic pass-through toll systems. Brisa is in its own right, one of the largest Portuguese companies and a world reference in its sector of activity.End to End digital video surveillance system
To further increase safety, information and level of service on its motorways, Brisa made the decision to invest in a fully end to end digital traffic control, surveillance and Automatic Incident Detection system. Video images are captured from the approximately 500 legacy analogue Pan-Tilt-Zoom cameras and are directly digitized, encoded and compressed by the VisioWave VisioBox Digital Video Equipments. The video streams are then transported across the IP network and can be monitored in local operational centers or in the central operational coordination centre. VisioWave’s scalable video compression allows for fully digital display systems offering more scalability than analog monitors. Especially, in the central operational coordination center, the VisioWave software decompression system is coupled with Barco’s iTraffic solution. Barco's iTraffic Integrated Display Solution is the first solution to provide integrated visualization of the total Intelligent Transportation System. iTraffic is designed to provide a control center with a real-time collaborative work experience for monitoring, response dispatching/coordination, access/flow control, recording and overall systems control for 24/7 operations. iTraffic consists of a flexible and scalable OverView cPG67 display system in a 10x3 configuration controlled by a Barco Argus controller enabling the simultaneous monitoring of 96 live video images. The controller is designed with high bandwidth backplane chassis architecture. Therefore, the controller can serve as a universal decoding platform, capable of accepting both analog and digital video inputs cards (Wavelets, MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4 over RTP/TCP/UDP over IP).
Optimized integration of surveillance, traffic control and Automatic Incident Detection
The VisioWave Security Solutions are offering high level video switching and camera control features as well as integrated image processing applications for vehicle counting and statistics. Barco’s iTraffic solution, combining a flexible display and universal decoding, and VisioWave’s open architecture and software development tools result in a truly integrated display solution that is unique in its flexibility and performance.
