Barco LED Displays Provide Dazzle on Robbie Williams Tour
On June 28, Robbie Williams started one of this summer’s most anticipated European tours. Backed by 90 square meters of Barco LED displays in one of the most unusual, creative set-ups seen to date, Williams will wow audiences throughout Europe’s major cities.
One of today’s most celebrated, versatile performers, Williams kicked off his European summer tour in Edinburgh last weekend. The 15-date summer tour supports the artist’s latest album “Escapology”, and will visit most major European cities including Stockholm, Vienna, Berlin, Amsterdam, Copenhagen and Dublin.
Renowned for his unusual, creative performances, the true Williams fan will not be disappointed by the artist’s spectacular stage set-up this year. On a futuristic stage backed by seven-meter high columns of Barco’s Dlite 10 LED displays, Robbie Williams will bring singles such as the Escapology chart-topper “Come Undone”.Says Rene De Keyzer of XL Video, who will be providing the LED displays for the tour: “This is by far one of the most unusual and most demanding set-ups we have done for a live-performance thus far. The seven columns of Barco LED, each seven meters high, are hung from a railing that surrounds the stage. Each column is able to move both up and down as well as come together to form one giant video wall. Add to this the fact that each LED column can rotate 360 degrees on its own axis as well as move from its starting position behind the artist to a position on the front-end of the rail where the backside of the wall faces the crowd, and you get an incredible visual experience. We have been testing and fine-tuning this intricate set-up over the past few weeks, and I can assure you that to see these enormous shapes with their flashy, colourful content shift gracefully across the stage, is a sight that leaves one speechless. ”
The intricate set-up of Barco’s LED displays requires the use of eight Barco D320PL processors, which allow each display to function as a separate visual entity. Due to the unique nature of the backdrop and the hoisting/weight limitations of most indoor venues, the custom-made Barco LED backdrop will be used only at outdoor concerts on the Williams tour, including Edinburgh, Vienna, Berlin, Amsterdam, Hannover, Copenhagen, Stockholm, London and Dublin.States Steve Scorse of Barco: “This is a proud moment for Barco too. Although our LED displays are already on stage at most of the major shows across the world, it is always exciting to see our products used to push the boundaries of creativity.”
Apart from the main stage set-up, Barco will also be providing two LED displays of 35 square meters each, which will act as relay screens.
