Barco introduces Modular Open System Architecture for real time avionics applications ‘MOSArt’
Le Bourget, France, 16 June, 2003 – At this year’s Paris Air Show, Barco is pleased to introduce MOSArt, an ARINC 653 compliant Modular Open System Architecture for real time avionics applications. Building on Barco’s popular modular open hardware architecture, MOSArt allows system integrators to easily develop and/or integrate their own software on Barco’s powerful hardware platforms.
Barco’s MOSArt system is based on an ARINC 653 compliant kernel, which allows integration of several applications into the same unit. The default Real-Time Operating System is INTEGRITY-178B from Green Hills Software. MOSArt’s open, modular approach reduces weight and power consumption and improves MTBF. With MOSArt, every partition can have a different criticality level, resulting in minimal certification cost. The MOSArt platform can easily be upscaled or downscaled to meet specific application needs without costly hardware changes. Moreover, the large range of available IOs makes the system very flexible towards future evolutions.Barco’s modular MOSArt architecture offers integrators a powerful platform for the development of their own software on Barco’s popular CDMS (Control Display and Management System) and MFD (Multi-Function Display) display solutions. Major benefits of this approach are the preservation of intellectual property of the core technology, flexibility towards future evolutions and reduced development costs. Also, MOSArt architecture facilitates obsolescence management of the avionics system.
MOSArt supports all common platforms and interfaces, including ARINC 429, MIL-STD-1553, ARINC 708/453, analog synchro, analog video,… and is certifiable up to level DO-178B Level A.
