Barco launches ‘FiberOpticLink®’ DVI extension solution
SCAR 2003, Boston, MA, USA, June 7, 2003 – At this year’s SCAR exhibition, Barco launches FiberOpticLink® (FOL), an ultra high-speed DVI extension for remote use of medical display systems, up to 100 meters/330 ft away from the workstation. FOL allows operators to use Barco’s ImageTile® digital lightbox as a remote operating terminal with uncompromised image quality, functionality and performance.
Barco’s FiberOpticLink® connects the IMAGETILE® digital lightbox to a remote workstation via fiber optic data, USB (Universal Serial Bus) and DDC (Device Data Channel) cabling. Combined with the transmitter and receiver units, they turn FOL into a complete DVI extension solution. Major advantages of a long-distance fiber optic link are increased operator comfort, considerable space gain, improved ease-of-maintenance and reduced noise production in operational medical environments.FOL can bridge distances up to 100 meters/330 ft at a maximum bit rate of 12x1.6 Gbit/s without the risk of pixel dropping. It is ideal for very demanding high-resolution medical images thanks to its high-speed connection to the graphics generator. Despite the distance, full functionality of the workstation via keyboard, mouse or any other USB device remains uncompromised. In addition, FOL allows technical interventions in a separate room, away from medical clean rooms.
Barco’s FiberOpticLink® comes as an OR ready solution and is available for IMAGETILE® 2W and 4W digital lightboxes. It is fully UL 606001-1(UL 2601) compliant.
