Barco Selected by General Dynamics UK to Supply 18” Modular Rugged Flat Panel Displays for BOWMAN/CIP Program
KORTRIJK, BELGIUM, May 23, 2003 – Barco has been selected by General Dynamics UK to supply more than 300 MRFD246L Modular Rugged Flat Panel Displays for the MOD BOWMAN Combat Infrastructure Platform (CIP). The 18” displays, specifically designed for use in landbased applications with sensitive radio communication, will present digitized C4I information to Staff Officers within deployed headquarters.
BOWMAN will provide the British Army with a tactical, secure, voice and data communications system until at least 2026. The MRFD246L displays will be the eyes of the Digitized Battlespace. Barco’s large-screen rugged visualization solution will provide Staff Officers with digitized battlefield information for situational awareness. As the units will be deployed in vehicles and shelters with limited space and also need to be easily dismountable for transport, the compact design of the MRFD246L was a key differentiator for General Dynamics UK. Moreover, this dedicated display features special shielding to reduce EMI/EMC signature and radiation to an absolute minimum so as not to disturb the sensitive radio communication channels.
Barco’s MRFD246L, with a resolution of 1280 x 1024, is an 18” rugged flat display designed for use in extreme environmental conditions. The display features a front bonded optical stack for superior ruggedization and optimum optical performance. The MRFD family combines a Display Module (DM) with a Display Control Module (DCM), connected by a single Barco Interlink Cable. The MRFD246L is a special-designed 18” Modular Rugged Flat Display, with optimized radiation shielding for use in applications with sensitive radio communication.
General Dynamics has received the first units beginning of May 2003 and deliveries will last until Q4 2006.
