Barco has been chosen to supply the brand-new Stade de Genève with its sports solution, which includes 38,4 square meters of its newly launched SLite 14 LED displays.
Kortrijk, Belgium – March 19, 2003 – Barco is pleased to announce that its much anticipated SLite LED displays have been chosen to grace the Stade de Genève, which will be used to host the Euro 2008 Football Championships, co-hosted by Switzerland and Austria.Stade de Genève, which is due for completion in March 2003 and will seat 30 000 spectators , will feature Barco’s total sports solution encompassing 38,4 square meters SLite 14, a D320 digitizer as well as customized score-boarding software. The mechanical design and construction as well as the installation of the display solution, which is due for completion by the end of April, is guided by a dedicated Barco project management team and realized together with the local partner Action Light SA.
With its seating capacity of 30 000, Stade de Genève will be one of the biggest stadiums in Switzerland, behind the National Stadium in Bern, which will have a capacity of 35 000 when completed. The state-of-the-art stadium will also form part of a larger sports, leisure and entertainment complex, which will include a hotel, restaurants, sports retail units, as well as bowling and large shopping-mall .
“Barco is enormously proud to have been chosen to supply its sports solution to this high-profile complex. Winning first Estadio das Antas in Portugal, which will host the 2004 European Football Championships, and now Stade de Genève for the 2008 Championships proves that our LED display solutions are fast becoming the preferred display systems in the European sports industry,” states Hilde De Swerdt, International Marketing Manager, Barco Media.
The 38,4 square meter SLite display will be mounted in the roof of the stadium, at the narrow end of the field. It will be controlled by Barco’s proprietary D320 digitizer and score-boarding software, which will allow it to show real-time video and data, sport-specific animations such as red cards and goals as well as sponsorship messages.
“We were very impressed by Barco’s demonstration of its sports solution,” says Mr. Thierry Tribolet, Purchasing Manager, Stade de Genève. “It offers us unlimited flexibility together with superior picture quality as well as very impressive processing power. We are very proud to have such a state-of-the-art display solution, which enhances the experience of the fan and offers our sponsors and advertisers a larger-than-life communication medium, as part of the stadium.”
Stade de Genève is due for completion in March 2003 and will celebrate its official inauguration with the first international match against Italy on April 30th 2003.
