BARCO Introduces MAMMODESK® and MAMMOMEDIS® for Digital Mammography
Bremen, Germany - At this year’s IWDM (International Workshop for Digital Mammography), Barco presents dedicated versions of its 5MP display systems for fast and flexible image access and consistent image quality in digital mammography. Product innovations include extremely high display resolution, contrast and luminance, as well as 10-bit graphics performance with real-time window and level functionality.
To address the imaging challenges that usually arise in digital mammography, Barco’s 5MP display systems bundle high resolution MGD greyscale displays, high-performance BARCOMED® imaging boards and MEDICAL® softcopy QA management software. These high-end components are available in two versions: MAMMOMEDIS® display systems and MAMMODESK® ergonomic workstations.As Barco realizes that image loading speed is of vital importance in digital mammography and screening, the BARCOMED® imaging boards have been equipped with Barco's proprietary AURA technology for ultra-fast image loading. The boards further feature a unique architecture with multiple real-time windowing/leveling tables, enabling simultaneous handling of prior and current CC (craniocaudal) and MLO (mediolateral oblique) images. Multiple Look-Up-Tables allow to program characteristic curves (such as DICOM, CRT or a linear curve), whereas the proprietary 10-bit driving scheme of the BARCOMED® 5MP1H imaging board displays 1024 simultaneous greyscales, which is another must for safe mammogram interpretation. Barco's high-bright 5MP greyscale displays offer radiologists exceptional image quality and accurate greyscale rendering. The MGD 521M, a dedicated version for digital mammography features better MTF (Modulation Transfer Function), resulting in higher resolution and improved contrast ratios for subtle image details. The display features Luminance Uniformity Correction, Digital Focus Control and the TRUEGREY® and & TRUEWHITE® electronic system for unequaled image fidelity and greyscale stability over time and across displays.All Barco greyscale displays feature a unique calibration routine by means of an optional external sensor and the MEDICAL® Pro image conformance and consistency software. With the sensor, the quality and consistency of the image can be automatically checked and corrected for phosphor degradation in case the system’s results differ from the reference values. The MEDICAL® QA management software tracks the consistency of each individual display and keeps the data in a central database. Via a user-friendly web inter, QA responsibles can manage total softcopy quality.For its experience in softcopy imaging, Barco has been invited to join the SCREEN research program (development of a Soft-Copy Reading Environment for digital mammography in breast screening). Barco’s imaging expertise will help solving typical issues such as image download speed, greyscale resolution and image dynamics, which have long been obstructing softcopy screening.
