BARCO Wins Contract from RENAULT Trucks Defense to Supply the Pilot Control Displays for the French VBCI Project
EURONAVAL, Le Bourget, France - BarcoView has been selected by Renault Trucks Defense to supply its rugged 12” Color Pilot Control Display to be integrated in the new French VBCI Infantry Fighting Vehicle (Véhicule Blindé de Combat d’Infanterie). The Barco Pilot Control Display is a light-weight rugged computer developed from Barco’s Vetronics ALTIUM 3000 with customized inter electronics and HMI software and offers a complete rugged visualization solution for the VBCI vehicle. The initial contract value is two and a half Million EURO. Follow-on contracts are in option.
The Barco Pilot Control Display is a new product that provides all parameters necessary for driving the vehicle and replaces the classic mechanical round dials and indicators. Barco’s Pilot Control Display has been selected for the VBCI Military Vehicles for its customized software capabilities and because it complies with the specific mechanical requirements of the ergonomic design of the driver position. Moreover Barco committed for a full logistic support package for 20 years after delivery.The VBCI Infantry Fighting Vehicle is selected by the French army as the successor to the AMX 10P and is a 26 ton, wheeled modular infantry vehicle designed for use by mechanized infantry platoons. In addition to the driver and the vehicle commander, it will carry nine fully equipped troops. The driver of the VBCI vehicle will have a glass cockpit.The French VBCI Infantry Fighting Vehicle is built by Satory Military Vehicles, a joint company of which Renault Trucks Defense is part. Renault will provide all automotive components, the electrical circuit and the driver’s position. The first prototype will be completed in the second half of 2003, with production starting in the second half of 2004.Barco will start first deliveries to Renault Trucks Defense in 2003. Optional batches may follow from 2007 to 2013.
