BARCO Supplies 21 Inch Modular Rugged Flat Panel Displays for the UK Royal Navy Sonar 2193 Project
EURONAVAL, Le Bourget, France - BarcoView has been selected by DRS Rugged Systems (Europe) Ltd, [DRS RSE], Farnham, UK, to deliver its 21” Modular Rugged Flat Panel Displays (MRFD354) for the Sonar 2193 System and the Command System on board of the Hunt Class of the United Kingdom’s Royal Navy. Barco’s displays will be integrated in the DRS RSE OPUS 2 Multi-Function Consoles, which will be installed on Hunt Class Mine Countermeasures Vehicles (MCMV), as part of the Mid-Life Update program.
DRS RSE selected the Barco 21” MRFD for its unique LCD flicker compensation (LFC) and automatic phase adjust (APA), guaranteeing flicker-free, sharp and consistent images at all times, respectively. Additional differentiators included the MRFD’s 1600x1200 resolution and compliance with stringent environmental specifications, such as magnetic signature, noise, EMC, shock and vibration. Moreover the MRFD354 display’s front filter has been bonded to the LCD, resulting in superior optical and environmental performance.Barco’s MRFD range of rugged flat panels has been designed for demanding C4I applications that require viewing graphics, video and other specific data on a single display. The modular approach of the MRFD, featuring a Display Module (DM) driven by a Display Control Module (DCM), allows customers to select the LCD , resolution and functionality that is needed for their application and environment. Optional direct camera inter and mixing functionality result in a cost effective solution for image overlay and mixing, with no need for separate graphics cards to be installed in the host computer.Deliveries for the Hunt project have started in September 2002 and will continue through 2004, with additional contracts in option.Sonar 2193 is the upgrade for the mine-hunting system for the Royal Navy’s hunt class mine counter measures vessels (MCMV) and will incorporate new wideband arrays and processing giving the Hunt class an unrivalled capability against stealthy mines in difficult littoral waters. The Hunt Class warships are fitted for both mine hunting and sweeping missions.
