BARCO Selected by Northrop Grumman to Supply 17 inch Rugged Flat Displays for Firefinder LMS
AUSA, Washington DC, USA - BarcoView has been selected by Northrop Grumman Corporation [NYSE: NOC] to supply 17” rugged flat displays (MRFD243) for use in its Firefinder Lightweight Multipurpose Shelter (LMS).
Northrop Grumman’s Electronic Systems sector has chosen Barco’s MRFD243, 17” Modular Rugged Flat Display as the Operator Display in the Firefinder Artillery Locating Radar System. In close cooperation with Northrop Grumman, BarcoView developed an electrical and mechanical adaptor assembly that allows direct replacement of the heritage CRT monitor in the original Firefinder system with a modern, commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) LCD flat panel display without any modification to the console. This substitution process allows for a seamless transition of the improved Firefinder shelter to production, and it provides for modernization of fielded Firefinder shelters faster and at lower cost. The new display also provides performance improvements in brightness, overall image quality, power consumption, weight, reliability, maintainability, environmental survivability, and feature expandability.The Barco MRFD is a 17”, SXGA resolution (1280x1024 pixels), rugged flat display, featuring Barco’s unique automatic phase adjust (APA) and is designed for demanding C4I applications. The MRFD display’s front filter has been bonded to the LCD, resulting in superior optical quality and environmental performance. The MRFD243 consists of a 17” Rugged Display Module (RDM243) and a Display Control Module (DCM), connected by a Barco Interlink Cable (BIL). The RDM and DCM may be mounted together in a combined configuration or up to 5 meters apart in a split configuration. Barco makes several lines of flat panel displays configured specifically to replace obsolescent CRT displays, either directly or with no-risk Barco adaptor kits.Northrop Grumman will begin receiving production deliveries in November 2002. Total requirements are estimated to be 200+ units.
