Barco Digital Cinema plays a key role in one of the most important global initiatives of Digital Cinema

In the second phase of a four-part plan to establish 100 digital theaters by the end of 2004, Barco Digital Cinema has this month installed a further eleven new Digital theaters in China’s key cities of Shanghai and Beijing.

Following the installation of 5 projectors for the digital release of Star Wars “Attack of the Clones”, the supply of a further 11 projectors represents another major step forward in Barco’s ’s relationship with the China Film Bureau and the China Film Group (CFG).

The latest digital theater installations, include a further three theaters in Beijing, two in Shanghai - one of which is also equipped with a 33sqm Barco Dlite LED wall - and two in Hangzhou.
Other single venue installations are located in Dalian, Guangdong Nanhai, Hefei and Ning Bo and are all scheduled to be completed by December 20. This is in time for the release of the Chinese digital movie "Hero", directed by the renowned Chinese director Mr. Zhang Yi Mou.

Since its first sale in May of a D-Cine Premiere DLP Cinema projector to China’s leading Post house, the Hualong Film Digital Production Co. Ltd., Barco has provided projectors for CFG’s national launch of digital theaters for the Star Wars II and more recently Stellar Megamedia for their Post facility in Beijing and state-of-the-art multiplex in Shanghai.
All installations have also been equipped with Barco’s D-Cine Premiere digital projector and ACSAR alternative content input switcher to enable a full range of HD movie, broadcast inputs as well the increased quota of Hollywood Movie screenings.

Mr. Huang Yao Zu, Chief Engineer of the China Film Group and CEO of Hualong Film Digital Production Co. Ltd, states, “ We have been very satisfied with the first D-Cine Premiere projector installations, very pleased with Barco’s support and we look forward to working with them on the second phase of this important project. “

Sjoerd De Clerck, Managing Director of Barco Digital Cinema, comments,
“ We applaud the strategic vision of the China Film Group: they realize that Digital Cinema is the way of the future and that the future is not something that happens, it is something that you create. We are honored to be part of this creation of CFG”
