World Championship Road Racing Live on BARCO Displays

At the World Championships Road Racing 2002, held in Zolder, Belgium from 8 to13 October, BARCO daylight display systems will bring spectators all the action: larger than life, as it happens.

Kuurne, October 11, 2002. Barco is proud to confirm that its renowned daylight display systems will once again be used to bring a world-class event - the World Championship Road Racing - to the many fans who will be watching the race this coming weekend.

The daylight displays, which are delivered to the championships by one of BARCO’s largest rental partners, XL Video, will enhance viewing for thousands of spectators at several key locations throughout course.

XL Video, one of the world’s foremost suppliers of rental and staging equipment to events such as U2’s “Elevation” tour, The Malaysian F1 Race and the US Open Tennis Championships, will be using a total of 90 square meters of Barco’s Dlite displays to show both live and pre-recorded footage to spectators throughout the duration of the six day event.

Barco’s Dlite displays, which are specifically designed and developed to be used outdoors and withstand extreme weather conditions, yet still deliver a great picture, will be used on the Jacky Ickx corner, on the first left corner as well as on the finish line.

At the Jacky Ickx corner, the race can be watched live on a 50 square meter Dlite 14 display, while both the other displays gracing the course are Dlite 10 displays.

“We own almost 400 square meters of Barco’s daylight displays and use it at various high profile events across the world,” says Rene de Keyzer, Managing Director, XL Video. “Both Barco’s Ilite (indoor) and Dlite (outdoor) daylight displays offer us the image quality and system integrity we seek in our equipment. Our clients in turn know they can rely on us for the very best equipment available on the market today”

Gracing the finish line at this year’s Road Racing Championships is another of XL Video’s inventive ways of utilising the Barco displays. This time, the company uses a 11 meter long truck into which 24 square meters of Barco’s Dlite 10 has been integrated, making it the ideal portable display device. The display itself can be rotated 350 degrees to offer optimal viewing from all angles.

Barco’s ILite and DLite visual solution product line is ideal for a variety of applications such as exhibitions, product launches, advertising, sport stadiums and live events.

“At Barco we realise that the world of event engineering offers no room for error. These are high profile live events where there is no second take, where, if your equipment fails, thousands will be witness to it. We have always focused heavily on the R & D of our products” says Stephan Paridaen, VP BarcoProjection, “and we know our customers value the reliability and quality this brings to our displays…which is why they keep buying them!”
