SliverWatch in high demand in Italy
A 10cm contamination in the sliver coming from the card ends up, after drawing and spinning in several hundreds of meters of contaminated yarn. In case the OE machines or the winders are equipped with foreign fiber clearers, a very large number of clearer cuts will be the result of such a contamination. Obviously this causes the machine efficiency (especially in the case of OE spinning) to drop down and a high number of piecings/splices will have a negative effect on the yarn quality.
Italy is known for highly productive spinning mills where the finest yarns are spun. Many mills guarantee their customers contamination free yarn, meaning that the number of foreign fibers in the yarn will be virtually zero. In order to achieve this challenging commitment, Italian spinners have been the first to install Cotton-Sorters and yarn clearers with foreign fiber detection.
After ITMA, some extensive test took place in many Italian mills with a SliverWatch installation installed on the first step (breaker) draw frame. The results proved to be excellent. By stopping the draw frame and removing the contamination at that stage, the spinning efficiency could be maintained at a high level, because the number of clearer cuts for foreign fiber gets greatly reduced.

The following Italian spinners have installed a number of SliverWatch systems:
Manifattura di Cene
CFT
Manifattura di Trani (Franzoni group)
Zambaiti
Manifattura di Perosa (Legnano group)
Manifattura di Legnano (Legnano group
Manifattura Cotoniera Monte Rosa (Legnano group)
Manifattura Crespi di Nembro (Legnano group)
Manifattura C.A.P
Tessival Spa
Manifattura del Crati
Also customers in France and Germany have installed SliverWatch to reduce foreign fiber contamination in their yarns. The first installations in Asian mills have just been started up.
