Barco Introduces Revolutionary Networked Projection Solution

Belgium, Kortrijk – September 3rd, 2002 - Barco Intelligent Displays, a division of BarcoProjection, has officially introduced the iQ Pro projector. The iQ Pro projector is the first projector on the market that includes a powerful computer server (with Microsoft XP OS) for full networking capability. IT and AV technologies truly come together in this advanced networked projector. With up to 3,500 ANSI lumen brightness, the iQ Pro projector will increase business efficiency by aiding in more effective collaborative and virtual meetings, and allow presenters to present without connecting to any cable. BARCO has developed two software applications that come standard with the iQ Pro, a user friendly presenter software, called DropZone and Control & Management software, designed for the AV Facility Manager.

With the iQ Pro projector, presenters can present over the Local Area Network (LAN), and can retrieve any presentation or file saved on the LAN straight from the projector. The DropZone allows them to drag & drop or load any file from their laptop straight on the projector’s hard disk. Furthermore, as files can be retrieved from the LAN or from the hard disk of the iQ Pro Projector; it is no longer necessary to bring your laptop to the presentation. This is not only true for data files, but also for video files, as the iQ Pro projector is streaming video capable. You will no longer need to connect a video recorder to the projector; the video material can be retrieved straight from the LAN.

When people share information during a meeting and work together on the same file, the iQ Pro server is capable of displaying content from their laptops instantly on the screen. Using the DropZone, every meeting participant can add their content on the projector, without disconnecting and passing the RGB cable. In addition, participants can transfer mouse and keyboard control to other meeting members instantly over the network. Even remote meeting participants, connected to the network over a WAN, can follow the presentation from their desk, as if they were present in the meeting room. The remote meeting participants can take mouse and keyboard control of the presentation and projector, when they need to do their part of the presentation.

BARCO’s Control & Management' software allows the AV Facility Manager to control and manage any function of his fleet of projectors from his desk. For example, in the morning he can start up his fleet of projectors remotely, and based on the use of the meeting rooms, he can put any group of projectors in standby mode, all from his desk. Group management allows dividing the fleet of projectors into different groups. Status information on all crucial parameters can be viewed remotely and the projector itself can send an email to the AV Facility Manager to inform him on lamp life status, system operation, etc. This will result in improved maintenance and will improve the HelpDesk service. Assistance to presenters can now be given remotely; it is no longer necessary for the AV Facility Manager to run to meeting rooms to provide assistance.

Thanks to the powerful processing capabilities of the iQ Pro’s internal server, and to the fact that the user can add his own software to the server, the iQ Pro is a perfect fit in university and corporate applications, as a key element for further integration.

Next to its fully networking capabilities, the iQ Pro offers the same innovative functionalities as the iQ Series, such as advanced picture-in-picture (two data and one video), seamless source switching and an intelligent dual-lamp system for redundancy. The iQ Pro series will be available as of October 2002, in XGA resolution (iQ Pro G300) and in SXGA resolution (iQ Pro R300).
