Barco-Xenia, Building for the Future
Xenia, Ohio - After the expansion of its manufacturing facilities in August 1999 - adding 10,000 square feet - Barco-Xenia (Ohio) has now added an additional 16,500 square feet to its building on Bellbrook Avenue as a direct result of the continuing growth of its projection display activities. The current expansion encompasses three main areas of business. There is a new front entrance to welcome customers and visitors, a new marketing area, three large darkrooms to design and demonstrate unique display structures, and finally a large open area for equipment storage and staging.
Barco-Xenia (formerly Electronic Image Systems, Inc) is a member of the Barco Simulation Products group and experts in designing and manufacturing high-end, raster-calligraphic projectors. The raster-calligraphic CRT-projectors combine raster scan (projection of TV-like images) with calligraphic scan (projection of light points and lines). Barco’s EIS raster-calligraphic projectors are used in Full Flight Simulators. By providing a major portion of pilot training on simulators rather than on an actual aircraft, commercial airlines and military trainers realize tremendous cost savings and can provide safer training for pilots. As flight simulation technology advances, government regulations allow increased use of simulators in approved training programs.Barco’s EIS raster calligraphic projectors and MRP’s are presently used by the majority of Full Flight Simulator integrators and are widely regarded as the highest performance system available. Important customers are CAE, Canada – Thales Training and Simulation, France – Flight Safety International, USA – Evans and Sutherland, USA - SEOS, UK … Barco-Xenia products are installed and in active service in at least 27 countries and are backed by an exclusive three-year warranty.
In coordination with the present expansion, Barco has centralized its United States simulation operations to Barco-Xenia in Xenia, Ohio, the Barco competence center of Simulation excellence. Complementary Barco Simulation Products – developed and manufactured in Kuurne, Belgium –considerably widens the marketing potential of the Xenia facility, as they address complementary markets such as automotive design, oil and gas exploration, fire arms training and mission training for military applications, and immersive edutainment (museums, theme parks, planetariums).
With record sales in each of the last three years, growth from the existing business has been enough to call for further expansion. With this latest expansion, the Barco-Xenia facility is now over 43,000 square feet, with additional room to grow. By the end of 2002, Barco-Xenia anticipates to have 100 people on the payroll, of which 30 will be engineers active in Research and Development, and to grow the total number of associates by approximately 40 over the next three years.
