Barco Digital Cinema provides the Digital Cinema Projection for the Festival du Cannes first ever digital screenings

In it’s fifth year as supporter of the Cannes Festival, and first as official sponsor, Barco Digital Cinema has supplied the digital projection equipment for all of the Cannes Festivals first digital screenings.

In a sign of the rapidly increasing international acceptance of Digital Cinema in the last 12 months the Cannes Film Festival has this year scheduled a remarkable nine digital screenings, with more still expected to be announced.
The schedule of press and public screenings includes the high profile digital premiere of Star Wars II ‘ The Attack of the Clones’ for Lucas film, a preview of the animated movie ‘Spirit’ for DreamWorks and of a digitally restored version of ‘Goodbye Mr Chips’ for Warner.
Barco’s THX approved digital cinema projector the ‘D-Cine Premiere® has been installed in the Festivals Lumiere and Bunuel theatres for a screening schedule that also includes Pepe le Moko, Max et les Ferrailleurs, a restoration of ‘Singing in the Rain’ presented by Studio Canal and Warner bros, Russian Arc aka Waterloo by Alexander Sokurv and a tribute to Billy Wider by Martin Scorsese.
The wide variety of digital screenings will be run from several different sources including the EVS 24p CIneServe server and Sony HD CAM via the Barco ACSAR Alternative Content router and switcher.
The supply of the D-Cine Premiere Digital Cinema projectors are representative of a huge commitment by Barco Digital Cinema to the 2002 Festival which this year see’s projectors from it’s Digital cinema, Presentation and Home Theatre range used in over 10 venues throughout the Market.

All screenings use the Barco D-Cine Digital Cinema projector based on the
DLP Cinema™ technology from Texas Instruments.
The Barco D-Cine Premiere® is the first, and still only, digital projector to be approved by THX for digital cinema use.
