Barco D-Cine Premiere® awarded first THX® Digital Projector Certification
Barco Digital Cinema is proud to announce that it’s D-Cine Premiere® digital projector is the first to have been selected by THX® for certification under its program for Digital Cinema products.
Certification of the projector will assure high quality digital presentations for this month’s release of Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones, as well as for all future digital movies.
The projector based on the latest generation Texas Instruments m15 DLP Cinema technology with it’s enhanced security, image, colour and contrast management is also provided with a range of unique features including sealed digital optics to maintain optimum performance over time and advanced lens and diagnostics features.
"THX has a long history as a powerful force in the continuous improvement of the movie-viewing experience,” said Sjoerd De Clerck, Barco’s Managing Director of Digital Cinema, “So we welcome THX participation in helping digital cinema achieve its full quality potential. Barco is very pleased to be able to offer the Barco D-Cine Premiere, the highest quality, and now the first THX certified digital projector."
As Dave Schnuelle, Director of Technology, THX Digital Cinema, explains
"Digital cinema is a complex technology with plenty of opportunities for image quality to be compromised. The overriding goal with the THX digital cinema certification program is to deliver the highest level of image and sound quality, and do so consistently over a long period of time."
Barco Digital Cinema and THX commitment to their leading roles in making Digital Cinema reality is immediately evident in their cooperation in the premiere digital screenings of Star Wars “Episode II” where they have worked closely to ensure the highest standard of display in Barco equipped digital theatres throughout North America, Europe and ASIA.
In another significant ‘first’ for the world of Digital Cinema however, Barco - in cooperation with THX and the CST - have also provided the D-Cine Premiere® DLP Cinema projector for the Digital screening of Star Wars in the world famous Lumiere Theatre in the Palais de Congress during the Cannes Festival on the 17th May.
