BARCO receives order of over 5 million EUR to supply ISIS flat panel LCD displays for The Australian Advanced Air Traffic System (TAAATS)
Kortrijk, May 8, 2002, BarcoView has received a contract of over 5 million EUR, by Thales ATM, Australia, to supply a large number of 28” ISIS 2K x 2K flat panel LCD main displays, for TAAATS project. The ISIS LCD main displays will be integrated in the TAAATS Executive Planner workstation and replace the square CRT-based main displays in the air traffic centers of Melbourne and Brisbane.
In order to meet the challenges of rapidly advancing aeronautical technology, globalization of the aviation industry and increases in air traffic, AirServices Australia, representing the Australian Civil Aviation Authorities, has fully commissioned TAAATS. TAAATS is a landmark project based on state-of-the-art technology, all en route air traffic control being consolidated to two purpose-built centers located in Melbourne and Brisbane.BARCO’s ISIS LCD main display will be integrated into the TAAATS Executive Planner workstation, and will be primarily used as a plan view Air Situation Display.
BarcoView has been chosen by Thales ATM Melbourne to supply ISIS LCD main displays because of their outstanding optical quality and functional compatibility with the existing CRT-based main displays. BARCO’s ISIS LCD main display is known for its superb image quality, low lifecycle cost and because it is fully compatible with the worldwide de facto ATC standard 20” x 20” square format and 2048 x 2048 resolution.
Moreover, the 4 mega-pixel ISIS LCD main display can easily be integrated into both new and existing Controller Working Positions. The high-bright light output and crisp graphics presents more detailed information, offers enhanced user comfort and counteracts eye fatigue.
In accordance with the frame agreement, the ISIS displays will be supplied in four batches over a period of two and a half years. A first batch of 29 displays will be shipped in October 2002.
In addition to this major contract, BarcoView has already received other important orders for the ISIS flat panel LCD displays since its introduction in the market in 2001. Customers are companies such as Indra Sistemas SA, DFS Deutsche Flugsichering, Alenia Marconi Systems ATMAS, and Skyguide.
