Barco Introduces D-Cine Premiere Digital Cinema

New D-Cine Premiere range offers exclusive display, control, and operating features unsurpassed in Digital Cinema industry.

Las Vegas - March 5, 2002

Barco Digital Cinema has advanced its line of high-performance D-Cine Digital Cinema projectors with the introduction of the Barco D-Cine Premiere DP50 and DP40 digital cinema projectors. This new digital cinema projector range combines exclusive Barco features along with an enhanced m15 Texas Instruments DLP Cinema™ Dark Metal 3 micromirror device that now allows the director to go beyond film's current capabilities, allows the exhibitor unmatched screenings flexibility and the operator the quickest and easiest possible projector management.
Both projectors, the D-Cine Premiere DP50 - based on the reference Kinoton lamp console, and DP40 - providing a compact modular solution, are equipped with a unique range of advanced display, control and operating features that guarantee Digital Cinema projection of truly exceptional performance.
Complimenting the many benefits of the TI m15 technology Barco’s D-Cine Premiere Digital head provides a number of features not available on any other Digital Cinema projector - including a sealed digital engine and a dust proof digital head for consistently clean, bright, high contrast images.
Also new to the D-Cine Premiere range is a proprietary, Communicator control program – an intuitive, windows based, software for faster and more accurate projector set up, digital video process, image and display control.
In addition Barco has introduced an active liquid cooling system with auto shutdown protection, which will issue an alarm and shut down the projector head if the projector overheats, and also a proprietary CLO™ (Constant Light Output) control option for more consistent screen display brightness during the life of the projector.

The Barco D-Cine Premeire range uses the RC567 control system, a convenient, highly integrated remote control that provides easy, user-definable push button or touch screen operation of the projector and the projection head and a theater automation interface, allows advanced features of the projector without requiring a laptop computer and password protected service and setup functions.

In order to convert incoming signals to the SDI 292m operating standard of the D-Cine projectors, Barco has a powerful video scaler and matrix switcher: the ACSAR. First introduced last year, this robust, modular box enables the projectors to display up to eight inputs from any source, from VGA to S-XGA as well as HDTV inputs. The ACSAR opens new opportunities for STV advertising or alternative theater applications, such as live broadcast, PC presentations, sports, entertainment, business and art-house movies. The picture-in-picture feature makes the projector ideal for PC gaming applications in the theater.

Central to the D-Cine Premiere projector range is the TI m15 engine featuring its
CineLink™ Security Management system for the support of encryption of the local link between server and projector for greater security, watermarking and fingerprinting and provides the facilities for the projection of a broader range of source materials. Other features include CineCanvas™ Image Management that supports a wider range of source materials and also provides support for multiple language text subtitles and captions overlays. CinePalette™ Color Management allows 35 trillion colors to be represented on screen, improves the smoothness of details in very low light, and contributes to the improvement in the contrast ratio of DLP Cinema™ technology to 1350:1. Additionally, CineBlack™ Contrast Management delivers a pure tonal scale between deep black and pure white.

Since its introduction, the Barco D-Cine range has been installed in theatres and post-production houses across the globe, including Loews E-Walk Theatre in NYC, Ziegfeld Theatre in NYC, IVC Post Production in Burbank, in North America, and in Europe Éclair Laboratories, France and in February ’02 the landmark installation by UCI Central Europe of the first independently funded multiplex theatre in Budapest, Hungary.
