Kortrijk, February 8, 2002, By mutual agreement, the BARCO Board of Directors and Hugo Vandamme have decided that Mr Vandamme will soon be resigning as President and CEO of BARCO.

Hugo Vandamme will remain a director at BARCO and will become Vice- Chairman of the Board of Directors. The Board of Directors has expressed its great appreciation for the groundbreaking role which Hugo Vandamme has fulfilled in BARCO’s growth over the last 20 years.

The Board of Directors has appointed Martin De Prycker President and CEO, effective immediately. At the next General Meeting, the new President will be nominated for a term of six years.

As Vice-Chairman, Hugo Vandamme will remain available to complete assignments for BARCO at the request of Herman Daems, Chairman of the Board of Directors, and the new CEO.

Mr Erik Dejonghe will resign as a director of BARCO and will be appointed an Advisor to the Board of Directors.

Until now, Martin De Prycker (47) has been Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and a member of Alcatel’s Executive Committee in Paris. As CTO, Mr De Prycker was responsible for the company’s vision in the field of technology. Worldwide, he directed the activities of 25,000 engineers and was thereby responsible for Alcatel’s technological renovation.

Before his appointment as CTO at the beginning of 2000, Mr De Prycker was Chairman of the Alcatel Internet Access division and Director of Network Strategy. He converted the company from traditional technologies to new technologies. As a key component of this strategy, Martin De Prycker played an instrumental role in taking over technology companies. In 1996, Mr De Prycker laid the foundations for the launch of a virtual “business within a business” at Alcatel, which would allow them to take the lead in the rapid development and marketing of Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL). As Vice-Chairman of the Access Business Unit, Mr De Prycker had managed the Internet and ADSL product lines, which developed into a highly profitable business for Alcatel and captured a worldwide market share of 53%.

Martin De Prycker holds a PhD in Computer Sciences and an Electrical Engineering degree from the University of Ghent, as well as an MBA from the University of Antwerp. He has numerous important patents in the field of ATM and data switching systems to his name. He is generally recognized as being one of Europe’s prominent personalities in the field of new technology.

Martin De Prycker is ideally positioned to further develop the strategic renovation which was begun at Barco in 2000, and to successfully assure Barco’s growth in high-technology markets. More particularly, it is expected that Mr De Prycker will be able to make a good selection of the technology products which will support Barco’s future market status, as well as add a communications dimension to the existing products.

On Monday, 11 February, a press conference will be organized at which Martin De Prycker, the new CEO of Barco, will be introduced.
