Flanders River Information Services chooses Barco overview wall for effective waterway management

Kortrijk, Belgium, 27 May 2010. Barco, a global leader in visualization technology, is proud to announce the official opening of the renewed RIS (River Information Services) division in Evergem, Belgium. To assist RIS-Evergem towards more effective waterway management activities, Barco has provided video equipment for their new video wall room.

Belgium has one of the most extensive and dense waterway networks in the world. This is an important economic, recreational and scenic asset that needs to be monitored carefully. RIS-Flanders (River Information Services) is responsible for traffic management on the inland waterway network. Specifically, this includes the establishment of an interoperable, intelligent traffic and transport system to optimize the existing capacity and safety and improve interoperability with other transport modes.

The division RIS-Evergem combines various activities. It is a crisis center in case of emergencies, a general information center concerning waterways and it supports waterway traffic control. In line with their mission to develop a modern, innovative and future-oriented policy, RIS-Evergem has updated their offices with a brand new video wall room.

The video wall room contains six OV-515 50” display modules in a 3x2 configuration. “The overview wall gives our operators the chance to have a 24/7 strategic overview of the waterway network,” comments Piet Creemers from RIS. “Barco's display wall meets our high technical demands. Thanks to its brightness, contrast and large viewing angles the screen offers maximum readability for every operator in the room.”

“The project at RIS-Evergem is a perfect example of how an overview wall can make waterway management more efficient,” comments Stijn Verschraegen, Barco project manager. “By combining all strategic information on one big wall, all operators have access to the same basic information to be able to make the right decisions.”

Barco's OV-D2 series integrate cutting edge DLP™ technology into 50" video wall systems that are designed and optimized for use in a 24/7 mission critical environment. The Barco designed projection engine provides a set of unique features. The result is an unrivaled DLP™ rear projection-system with outstanding picture quality, reliability and ease of use.
