Barco expands offering with new portfolio of mobile point of care solutions
Kortrijk, Belgium, 3 March 2010. Medical imaging specialist Barco expands its portfolio with the ProScribe and CliniScape mobile point of care (MPoC) solutions. These 10” and 12” MPoC devices provide medical professionals with instant patient information at the point of care resulting in improved quality of care, faster decision-making and improved workflows. Both MPoC devices will be on display at the upcoming ECR and HIMMS medical congresses.
Visualization technology as a result of digitalization is essential to medical professionals all over the globe. For over 25 years, Barco's visualization solutions have proven their reliability in many clinical settings. The company is pleased to announce the addition of two MPoC devices to its portfolio. The ProScribe – a wireless thin client – and CliniScape – a ruggedized mobile clinical assistant – allow Barco to achieve its vision of delivering advanced solutions that increase efficiency and ensure better clinical outcomes.“The CliniScape and ProScribe MPoC solutions are a great addition to Barco's portfolio,” said Piet Candeel, Vice President of Barco's Medical Imaging Division. “They complement our existing products perfectly and allow us to extend our support to medical professionals who deliver healthcare throughout the hospital enterprise and in the community.” This addition is the direct result of Barco's recent acquisition of Italian-based company FIMI, previously a subsidiary of Philips Healthcare.
The CliniScape is a ruggedized mobile clinical assistant with a 10.4-inch XGA display. This ultra-ergonomic and medical-grade touch screen device enables nurses and physicians to take more informed clinical decisions at the point of care. All features needed that aim to increase patient safety and reduce administrative workload are integrated in the CliniScape. The unique handgrip and lightweight design make the unit easy to hold and carry. Operating and input can be done both with a stylus pen on the touch-screen or via the nine soft touch buttons with LED indicator. Robustness is one of the key aspects of the CliniScape: the magnesium-alloy casing enables the device to withstand a one meter drop onto a concrete surface, a rubber protection cover seals the USB port and docking connector, the device is water and dust resistant, and the sealed design and a removable fan enable disinfection. Integrated Bluetooth, RFID reader, digital camera and an optional barcode scanner ensure that the right patient receives the right care.
For physicians and nurses who need to stay connected when moving from patient to patient inside the medical facility, there's the ProScribe. This wireless thin client device with its 12-inch (1024 x 768) touchscreen, silent operation and rugged durability, enables medical professionals to access patient data anywhere, anytime and with minimum risk of downtime. A touch screen user interface, on-screen electronic keyboard and programmable hot keys, give users a broad range of options to provide input. The front screen is resistant to dust and water, and the device can withstand a drop from a one meter high on a concrete surface (Flash Disk version only). This extremely easy to use and versatile device also features multiple I/O ports (including Ethernet, USB, VGA and Audio in/out) and a PCMCIA slot for GPRS, CDMA and UMTS cards.
