Barco closes sale of Advanced Visualization business to Toshiba
Kortrijk, Belgium, 03 February 2009 – Medical imaging specialist Barco announces that the company closed the divestment operation of its Advanced Visualization (AVIS) activities to Toshiba Medical Systems Corporation, Tokyo, Japan. Details of the impact of the operation will be given with the announcement of Barco’s first quarter 2009 financial results on 22 April 2009.
Based in Edinburgh, Scotland, the AVIS group is specialized in 3D clinical software solutions, marketed worldwide under the product names ‘Voxar 3D’ and ‘Voxar 3D Enterprise’. Toshiba now owns all AVIS assets, including its full product portfolio.
The decision to sell its AVIS activities arises from the strategic refocusing of Barco’s medical imaging division, concentrating all resources on the development and marketing of medical display systems for diagnostic, surgical and clinical imaging along with custom-built solutions for medical OEMs worldwide. Barco has been a leader and pioneer in this area for almost twenty years. It is committed to strengthen this leading position in the healthcare imaging market in the years to come.
