Barco’s display technology selected for major PACS projects in Australia
RSNA Annual Meeting, Chicago, IL, USA, 30 November, 2008 – Medical imaging specialist Barco has scored a new success with its innovative Coronis Fusion 6MP DL solution, the world’s first diagnostic display system featuring a 6 MegaPixel 30-inch screen. The company has landed a significant deal from GE Healthcare, Australia, to deliver a large number of multi-modality 6MP display systems, along with several other PACS displays, to five hospitals in New South Wales, Australia. The contract confirms the immediate adoption of the new 6MP system by the international radiology society.
To equip these five hospitals with a state-of-the-art Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS), the New South Wales Department of Health recently released a tender, which was won by GE Healthcare. After evaluation and consultation with the Chief Radiologists, Barco’s display system was selected as the preferred visualization solution for the project.Dr Glen Schlaphoff, Director of Radiology at Sydney’s Liverpool Hospital, said: “During the assessment of the Barco Coronis Fusion 6MP DL system, we were impressed with the outstanding image quality of the 30-inch screen, both for color and for grayscale applications. The innovative, bezel-free screen makes reading very comfortable. In addition, it allows us to save valuable desk space.”
“Another major advantage of the Coronis Fusion 6MP DL system is its MediCal QAWeb solution for automated calibration and QA, which ensures continuous DICOM accuracy without interrupting the diagnostic routine,” Dr. Schlaphoff said.
The Coronis Fusion 6MP DL display system will provide the hospitals’ radiology departments with a versatile, multi-modality imaging solution. Dr. Steve Blome, Director of Radiology at the Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney, said he was looking forward to the installation of the Barco Coronis Fusion 6MP DL displays. “Having the two screens together with equal luminance gives the assurance of dependable side by side comparisons. And the high-resolution color and grayscale capability of the display avoids the need for a separate color monitor for multi-modality and 3D imaging at the PACS workstation,” Dr. Blome said.

Besides Coronis Fusion 6MP DL, the New South Wales Department of Health also ordered a large number of Barco’s Nio Fusion 4MP displays. All screens will be installed in the radiology departments of Royal North Shore Hospital, Liverpool Hospital, Fairfield Hospital, Ryde Hospital and Coffs Harbour District Hospital.
