Barco wins big at AV Awards

London, UK, October 12, 2008. Barco, a world leader in video lighting solutions, is proud to announce that it has won three prestigious awards at the 2008 AV Awards ceremony. Barco’s DML-1200 digital moving luminaire was awarded Best Display Product of the year, while The Comcast Experience with Barco’s NX-4 LED product won the award for Digital Media Project of the year. Barco was also awarded with the most prestigious Grand Prix Award.

The annual AV Awards, organized by leading audio/video magazine AV Interactive, were held at the Hilton Hotel Park Lane in London. The AV Awards jury awarded Barco with no less than three awards, including the Grand Prix Award for demonstrated leadership and innovation in the AV industry. The judges commented on Comcast’s marriage of creativity and technology, on Barco’s green initiatives, and the company’s commitment to developing the rental and staging marketplace. Overall Barco showed a breadth of creativity and product innovation which, the judges felt, helped move the a-v communications.

The Digital Media Project of the Year Award is given to a case study of an interactive media or video project carried out for b2b or b2c communication purposes. Barco won this award for “The Comcast Experience”, located in Philadelphia’s Comcast Center. The judges unanimously praised the “innovative use of media by Barco and Comcast Corporation”, which married high-end display technology with stunning content”. All of the content for The Comcast Experience was designed and produced by the Niles Creative Group.

As the world’s largest four millimeter indoor LED wall, The Comcast Experience is comprised of 6,771 Barco NX-4 LED modules, plus two Infocomm award-winning Barco image processing products: Encore and DX-700. It is the first time that display technology on this scale and of this quality has been incorporated into the architecture of a building. The Comcast Experience is one of Barco’s most recent projects in the fixed installations market.

Barco’s DML-1200 digital moving light won the Display product of the year award. The judges’ vote went to the DML-1200 for “its innovative combination of video and lighting in a generally-available staging and rental package”. Capable of being used both as a moving light source and as a video projector the DML-1200 produces in lighting mode 12,000 field lumens, while in video mode it uses a sealed DLP engine to deliver SXGA+ resolution and 10,000 ANSI lumen images.

Simon Turtle, Barco’s UK Sales Director, says: “We are delighted to have won these awards. Winning an award for a product, for a project and winning the Grand Prix Award for Barco Media & Entertainment is a brilliant result. It recognizes all parts within the Barco organization.“

Nico Vernieuwe, Vice-President for Barco’s Media & Entertainment Division states: “These awards, given by a leading AV magazine and a jury with experts from the industry mean a lot to us. It is recognition for what has been accomplished, and it strengthens us in our efforts to further innovate and to push the business forward”
