Doğuş Otomotiv contracts Barco for a high-tech automotive brand experience

ISTANBUL, Turkey – Barco, a world leader in advanced projection technology, is pleased to announce that it has been chosen by Turkey’s Doğuş Otomotiv to equip its OtoMotion visitor center with an impressive display wall and ten high-brightness projectors. Located in the Maslak area of Istanbul, Doğuş OtoMotion Istanbul will be fully centered on the automotive world, and will include Barco technology in its unique experience domes, theaters, guest facilities and conference rooms.

Doğuş Otomotiv is part of one of the three largest Turkish conglomerates, Doğuş Holding, and is Turkey’s main importer of all car brands under Volkswagen’s umbrella. For these brands, it is nearing completion of its futurist OtoMotion site, complete with auditoriums, showrooms and restaurants. To create the unique visitor experience Doğuş Otomotiv was aiming for, and for each brand to be showcased in the best possible way, Doğuş Otomotiv required state-of-the-art projection technology that reflected its high quality standards.

“Barco had been known to Doğuş Otomotiv for a long time,” explains Hamdi Yanik, integrator at Armoni, “and they were keen to work with them on basis of their outstanding image quality and experience in the industry. They simply had the best systems to offer.”

Doğuş Otomotiv opted for two single chip DLP iD R600+ projectors and two of Barco’s recently released CLM R10+ projectors, featuring light outputs of 6,000 and 10,000 ANSI lumens respectively. Their single-chip DLP technology guarantees extended reliability, and makes them suitable for intensive 24/7 operation. In the CLM’s case, this is further enhanced by its liquid-cooled, sealed optical engine and quad lamp system, rendering it virtually maintenance-free.

Doğuş Otomotiv also selected two high-level three-chip DLP projectors for OtoMotion; the FLM HD14 and the XLM HD30. While the former features a more than respectable 14,000 ANSI lumens light output, which is more than enough to project bright images even in luminous environments, the latter is one of the world’s brightest projectors, with a dazzling 30,000 ANSI lumens output. Both projectors feature native 1080p HD resolutions that allow for extremely detailed, razor-sharp images, and share the typical next-generation sealed optical engine design also found in other Barco projectors.

The crown jewel of the OtoMotion installation will be a three-channel Barco Reality Center with a 180° curved screen. Driven by six single-chip DLP Sim 5R projectors, it generates high-resolution images that make visuals come to life in the highest detail. The Sim 5R projector features renowned technologies such as edge blending, which creates one continuous image without blurry overlap zones; or linked constant light output and DynaColor, that guarantee the same stable color and light levels throughout the entire multi-channel image. Its most important feature however, is its warp technology, that automatically calculates and corrects projection on the screen’s 180° surface, so that the result is a geometrically perfect picture without distortions.

Doğuş OtoMotion Istanbul is expected to open during Fall 2007.
