Georgetown University Hospital opts for Barco's next generation diagnostic display systems
Kortrijk, Belgium, 19 September 2006 - Barco's new generation diagnostic display systems have been selected as the diagnostic imaging solution of choice by the Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, DC. As part of its Philips PACS implementation, the hospital recently installed a combination of grayscale and high-luminance color display systems for use with several radiology modalities. The installment marks a new breakthrough for Barco's unique 'Diagnostic Luminance' color technology in diagnostic environments.
The second generation of Barco's successful Coronis line made its first public appearance at last year's RSNA exhibition. Major innovations included breakthrough 'Diagnostic Luminance' technology, which provides unmatched brightness and contrast on high-resolution color displays. Moreover, the new Coronis introduced a new line of ATI-powered display controllers that ensure ultra-fast loading, roaming and handling. Finally, the new system pioneered the launch of a brand-new, web-based softcopy QA concept, bringing unparalleled transparency to the QA routine."We originally saw the next generation Coronis display system at the 2005 RSNA event and liked what we saw", says Terry Clark, Director of Radiology at Georgetown University Hospital. "After a departmental demonstration, we were convinced that the image quality and versatility provided by the new Coronis far exceeded that of its competitors."
From the first day, Barco's Coronis display systems have met the quality standards applied by the Georgetown University Hospital Radiology Department. "The display systems are a key component of our PACS. Our diagnostic capabilities depend heavily on their ability to accurately and clearly present the patient's images," explains Dr. Carlos Jamis-Dow, Director of Imaging Technology at Georgetown University Hospital. He adds: "We particularly like the ability to read any study - conventional radiography, ultrasound, multiplanar and 3D CT, MR or PET/CT - on any workstation in the department because all our systems, color or grayscale, are 3MP and they all have high luminance and high contrast ratios. We also like the constant monitoring and alerting capabilities of MediCal QAWeb, which assures us that our displays are always within DICOM compliance and that, if not, our IT team will be notified of any non-compliant units."
Furthermore, radiologists at Georgetown University Hospital are very pleased with Coronis's very sturdy dual-head pedestals, which make it easy to create a highly ergonomic reading position. Finally, they are laudatory of Barco's high responsiveness and excellent service standard.
