Quinn Packaging orders wireless Barco MES system for new Irish facility
Visualization specialist Barco is proud to add Quinn Packaging, one of Europe’s foremost manufacturers of plastic packaging for the dairy spread and food tray sectors, to its customer list. The wireless PLANTMASTER Manufacturing Execution System (MES) for the new state-of-the-art factory in Ballyconnell (Co. Cavan) sits perfectly with the Quinn ethos of maximizing output using the latest technology.
The PLANTMASTER system will also assist Quinn Packaging with their goal of eliminating manual paperwork from the factory floor. With the help of Barco’s powerful and flexible report generator, users will have access to real-time information at their machines, to ensure a rapid and confident response when issues arise. With an automatic (two-way) link to their ERP system, manual information input is kept to an absolute minimum.Extrusion, thermoforming, printing, slitting, plastic strapping and blown film machines will be connected to PLANTMASTER using Barco’s latest generation of DU8P/WDL wireless data unit which offers complete backup and recovery capability. In the event of a power failure to the server or routine network maintenance, monitoring data will continue to be gathered locally by each data unit. Upon resumption of normal service, all data will be recovered to PLANTMASTER, so no key manufacturing data is lost.
To assist with traceability and job identification, adhesive labels (containing textual and barcode information) will be triggered by the push of a button at each machine. The product will then be scanned into (or out of) the Warehouse as required.
The real-time “Drag & Drop” scheduling tool in PLANTMASTER will optimize the loading of the machines and make the job schedule clear and easy to understand to all parties concerned.
