Deluxe Hollywood selects SGI Professional Services and Barco for film review suite
Hollywood’s Deluxe Laboratories has installed a Barco Premier DP100 D-Cine projector for film review applications, complementing the four Barco DP100s in EFILM’s Digital Intermediate suites.
Barco and Silicon Graphics (OTC: SGID) announce that worldwide media company Deluxe Labs has installed a Barco DP100 2K D-CINE PREMIERE projector at its Hollywood facility through SGI Professional Services. Designed for exclusive use in Deluxe’s film review suite, the DP100 will be used to project content for customer final sign-off prior to mastering and release.
The review suite’s projection booth is multi-purpose, housing both the Barco DP100 and one film projector. Because of limited space restrictions in the booth, a precise suspension mounting system was required for the Barco projector, enabling it to be mobilized into place when digital projection was required, and moved aside when film projection was scheduled. Because of the DP100’s modular design, the power supply was remoted, thus easing the required suspension weight.
In addition to the DP100’s 2048 x 1080 native resolution, high lumen output and 2000:1 contrast ratio, the projector was also chosen by Deluxe for precise consistency with Deluxe’s subsidiary, EFILM — Hollywood’s leading Digital Intermediate (DI) facility.
“We exchange a lot of material with EFILM,” said Jim Whittlesey, Deluxe’s VP of Digital Cinema Technologies, “and a great deal of their work comes over to us for digital cinema mastering. Our DP100 is set up to give the exact same response as the projectors in EFILM’s DI suites, where the movies are color timed. So, when the customer comes here for QC, they’ll see exactly what they saw during the DI color grading sessions.”
Similar to EFILM’s DP100 suites, installation and system integration for the Deluxe DP100 was provided by the SGI Professional Services arm of Silicon Graphics, one of Barco’s strategic reseller partners in digital cinema. Maintenance will also be provided by SGI's Support Services organization.
“We’re thrilled with the projector and the level of professional support and integration from the SGI team,” said Whittlesey. “With similar Barco equipment at both EFILM and here, the operative word for the client is ‘no surprises.’”
