Barco awarded largest LED contract in Chinese sports market

Kortrijk, Belgium, 15 April 2005 – Barco Media & Entertainment is proud to announce that it has been awarded the contract to install state-of-the-art indoor & outdoor LED display solutions at the Nanjing Olympic Centre, Jiangsu province, China. The installation constitutes an order worth 2.5M Euro for Barco Media (China), making it the affiliate’s largest order to date in the Chinese sports market. The LED display solutions to be installed at the Nanjing Olympic Centre will total almost 300 square meters, while the outdoor LED display alone measures an astounding 212 square meters, making it the largest full-color LED screen ever installed in a sports venue in China.

The Nanjing Olympic Centre, the largest government funded public project in China’s Jiangsu province, has been elected to host the upcoming 10th All China Games, which will start on October, 9th 2005. The centre, which is composed of a stadium, gym, indoor swimming pool, tennis court and information center will feature two Barco LED displays. Barco will install one
SLite 14 outdoor LED screen in the Stadium and one Ilite 12MD indoor LED screen in the Gym. The installation is planned for completion before May 2005.

In addition, Barco will also provide the hardware and software for the control room, which forms the command centre of the installation. During the games, operators will be present to operate the entire display system, interacting with the display solutions in real time. The tailor-made hardware/software solution enables a greatly enhanced performance of both displays. It provides opportunities for advertisers to show broadcast quality advertising on the displays while also allowing the operators in the control room to adapt content last-minute to maximise crowd interaction and participation with the action on the field.
