Barco presents simulation upgrade solutions at WATS/RATS 05
This year's WATS/RATS attendees will learn how Barco visual display upgrades reduce risk and lower cost of ownership.
“Simulation facilities are always looking for ways to extend the life of older systems,” said Steve McCullough, Vice President and General Manager of Barco Simulation. “WATS/RATS gives us the opportunity to showcase our broad scope of upgrade solutions and how they can reduce risk and lower total cost of ownership.”This year, Barco highlights their broad range of solutions for upgrading flight simulation and training systems. Barco is the largest provider of simulation systems in the world, boasting installations in countries like the United States, Germany, France, Greece, Japan, Spain, the United Kingdom, and many more. Barco maintains offices in countries around the world to offer outstanding installation support and service. Barco’s upgrade solutions range from retrofitting an older system or implementing a new installation to providing spare parts. McCullough adds that Barco’s upgrade solutions are designed to maximize performance and minimize life-cycle costs.
Barco offers collimated simulator upgrades with their Wide-Angle Collimated (WAC) systems. These full-featured projection-based systems are specifically designed to replace obsolete 25” monitor visual systems. Barco’s solution enables the simulator to be upgraded using the original optics, facility, and motion base when cross-cockpit visual systems may be cost prohibitive or restricted by facility constraints. Cross-cockpit collimated systems are Barco’s line of high-performance raster/calligraphic projection systems, which have been engineered to replace obsolete projection systems. These projectors offer outstanding performance for a broad range of applications.
Barco completes hundreds of upgrade and new system projects each year,” said Keith Klentz, Simulation Market Development Manager at Barco Simulation. “Chances are we’ve already implemented an upgrade solution that addresses a simulation facility’s requirements. This allows us to specify the best upgrade solution without reinventing the wheel, saving time and money.”
Barco also provides new system installations, ranging from a single system at a single facility to several systems at multiple facilities. Each project involves effective planning, coordination, management, integration and installation. Barco also offers powerful tools for multi-system control and automated alignment. These technologies streamline the set-up, control, and alignment process to allow simulation centers to perform daily operational tasks faster, better, and more cost effectively.
In addition, Barco also provides numerous services to optimize performance and minimize downtime of existing systems for many years after the sale. Barco stocks a comprehensive range of replacement parts, including 9” CRTs. “Replacing a CRT with a non-authorized component can cause serious problems and also voids the Barco warranty and/or maintenance contract,” adds Klentz. “Barco carries authorized CRT replacements to ensure simulation centers get the proper CRT to meet their unique system requirements.” Barco offers replacement CRTs for Sony and Evans & Sutherland (E&S) models. E&S has a large installation base of simulation displays that uses Barco tubes.
WATS was created to bring together airlines, manufacturers, training suppliers, and regulators, giving them the opportunity to initiate regulatory change to take advantage of the technology advancements that can be seen in the exhibition.
