Impact Video’s Barco LED screens light up the set for Spike TV’s 2nd annual video game awards.
Impact Video was once again called upon to provide the Spike TV Network with Large Screen LED Video Displays for the Video Game Awards. This year’s show, broadcast live on December 14, 2004 from the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, CA featured a total of 542 Barco ILite tiles in various pixel pitches to include 10mm, 8mm, and the new ILite 6XP. In total eight LED video screens driven by eleven Barco D320 Processors with SDI inputs were used to bring the elaborate set to life. Production Designer Bruce Rodgers of Venice, CA based Tribe Design created a set that allowed the Spike Network to make great use of the multiple screens to playback awards packages, show logos, image magnification of musical performances and the ability to change the set look for each act.
The Barco ILite 6XP display measured 14’h x 19’w and was used primarily for Image Magnification due to its outstanding resolution. Positioned directly below was a 6’x24’w ILite 8mm that split open into two sections for performer entrances. The colossal center closedown screen measured 9’h x 36’w and utilized a 10mm dot pitch. Stage right featured an off aspect ratio 13’h x 9’w screen in an 8mm pixel pitch at the DJ position for Funk Master Flex. The remaining four screens consisted of two 6’h x 9’w 8mm and two 6’h x 18’w 10mm screens on either side of the house that were flown above the audience bleachers for additional performance areas and awards presentations. 
Hosted by avid video gamer and rap icon Snoop Dogg, the show featured live musical performances by Snoop, Sum 41, Method Man as well as the eagerly anticipated reunion of the infamous hard rocking drummer Tommy Lee with his Motley Crue band-mates after seven years.
