Cormar Carpets selects Barco wireless system to monitor tufting plant
Barco is pleased to add one of the most experienced and dynamic tufted carpet manufacturing companies to its customer portfolio. Cormar’s astute management of two sites covering over 30,000m² has led to a rapid increase in turnover in recent years. Consequently, the need for real-time shop floor data capture became vital to empower all levels of production management. The latest wireless TUFTMASTER system from Barco was selected for installation at their state-of-the-art factory in Ramsbottom, Lancashire, UK.
The TUFTMASTER system will connect all of their tufting machines, each fitted with a user-friendly Barco DU8P data unit. Considerable cost savings have been made, since the wireless technology chosen negates the need for running data cables from each tufting machine, back to the server. Instead, a Bluetooth access point will be installed in the ceiling of each of their four tufting areas. These units will pass information to and from the TUFTMASTER system using secure Bluetooth wireless RF communications.TUFTMASTER will provide users with the tools to monitor productivity of Cormar’s factories in real-time and create ad-hoc reports, so users can respond quickly where necessary. The user-friendly “Drag & Drop” planning tool will optimise the loading of the tufting machines and make the job schedule clear and easy to understand to all parties concerned.
A link with Cormar’s TROPOS business administration system will also be implemented, eliminating duplication of data entry by automatically downloading production requirements to the TUFTMASTER system. Similarly, at the end of an event (e.g. job change, shift change, etc..), TUFTMASTER will back-flush key production data such as job status against plan, metres produced, efficiencies, etc, providing an effective real-time update.
