Barco adds PDA support and other new capabilities to its MediCal Administrator software
RSNA 2004, CHICAGO, IL, USA, 28 November 2004 – At this year’s RSNA, Barco will proudly present the new remote calibration and problem solving capabilities of MediCal Administrator, Barco’s solution for hospital-wide image quality management. With the FDA 510(k) cleared MediCal Administrator 2.05, system administrators and service technicians have an even more powerful tool to manage the maintenance of their displays. Version 2.05 includes new features such as PDA support, improved reporting functionality and notification through industry-standard Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP). The new features of MediCal Administrator enable Quality Assurance administrators to reduce workload by managing their display systems more easily from a remote location.
Barco’s MediCal Administrator version 2.05 fully supports PDA devices. Thanks to this new feature, system administrators are able to access all medical display systems via PDA and control proactive checkups from any remote location. As a result, QA interventions can be performed at all times without disturbing radiology activities. Also, the new MediCal Administrator allows Pocket PC users to view information about each display system and the QA tasks performed, along with a status overview of all displays in the medical facility.
Secondly, Barco has significantly improved MediCal Administrator’s reporting capabilities. With MediCal Administrator 2.05, QA administrators can now export all their QA data reports to familiar formats, such as Excel and PDF. This allows IT professionals to edit their QA reports more easily and to smoothly exchange QA status information among the radiology department.

Last but not least, MediCal Administrator has been extended with notification functionality via industry-standard Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP). Thanks to MediCal Administrator’s customized notification and reporting system, technicians can now automatically be notified via SNMP whenever one of the display systems performs below standard. With this release, Barco expands the compatibility of its image quality management software, adding the SNMP standard to other customizable notifications via e-mail or cell phone.
Barco’s MediCal Administrator software has been officially approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The new version 2.05 will be extensively demonstrated at RSNA 2004 and will be available from January 2005 onwards.
