Barco enhances Coronis medical display systems to bring more productivity and higher image quality

Industry-leading Coronis display systems now feature improved high-speed display controller and new 2MP display

RSNA 2004, CHICAGO, IL, USA, 28 November 2004 – Barco is proud to announce that it will unveil at RSNA 2004 an upgrade to its industry-leading Coronis display systems with an improved, high-speed display controller and a new, high-quality 2MP display. As healthcare budgets tighten, the upgraded Coronis diagnostic display systems allow radiologists to be more productive. In addition, both enhancements will bring higher image quality and better viewing ergonomics to PACS and radiology rooms.

Barco’s Coronis display systems are now equipped with the new, high-speed BarcoMed Coronis, designed to speed up the diagnostic workflow and enable smooth image manipulation. BarcoMed Coronis is a 10-bit digital display controller for all Coronis display systems that renders the complete data set with 1024 simultaneous levels of gray. The dual-head display controller features 64-bit, 66 Mhz PCI performance and image download speeds over 400 MB per second. In addition, BarcoMed Coronis easily fits into modern workstations thanks to its small form factor.

Also new, Barco’s Coronis 2MP display with a 1600 x 1200 resolution, offers softcopy performance without compromise. This new Coronis display features IPS (In-Plane Switching) technology. IPS provides enhanced viewing angle characteristics, making it easier for several viewers to look at the screen from different positions. Furthermore, the response time and high on-axis contrast ratio of Coronis 2MP are ideally suited to display moving images.

With its industry-leading Coronis diagnostic display system, Barco has set the standards for diagnostic confidence, performance and image quality that last the entire lifetime of the display. Coronis offers the lowest cost of ownership thanks to its revolutionary concept of worry-free filmless perfection. The ever-present I-Guard sensor, in combination with Barco’s softcopy QA management software, guarantees DICOM quality of the Coronis diagnostic display over its entire life cycle, without the need for human intervention.

The roll-out of Barco’s enhanced Coronis display systems will begin in December.
