Barco chosen by Cinematheque for pioneer project Digital Cinema in Israel

After an exhaustive investigation of the market lasting nearly 18 months, Cinemateque, Tel Aviv – a non profit business supported by the Ministry of Culture - has chosen Barco’s Digital Cinema projection technology for the first Digital Cinema to be established in Israel.

Their pioneering investment in Digital Cinema projection confirms Cinematheque as the latest Exhibitor to take advantage of the additional revenue opportunities provided by the increasing amount of digital movie and Alternative Content. In a program intended to encourage more young patrons back to the cinema in Israel, the company is counting on Barco to provide the technological trend edge it requires.

The projector that Cinematheque selected to meet their need is the Barco D-Cine Premiere DP30 – mid-range DLP Cinema™ projector designed to meet the need for the highest quality movie displays up to 10m (33 ft) wide. In addition to the DP30, Cinematheque has also been provided with a Barco ACSAR Alternative Content processor to enable the display of content from the theaters existing standard video players.

Scheduled for installation in early August, the combination of DP30 and ACSAR will allow the Cinematheque duplex in Tel-Aviv to diversify its activities beyond the conventional screening of the international ‘blockbuster’ and now, for instance, to premier quality Israeli movies and fully support local Film Festivals.

As Mr. Alon Garbuz the Director of Cinematheque explains ‘We made a very thorough study of the market -traveling to London, the Cannes Film Festival and Dallas - during which we realized the uniqueness of Barco’s innovative Digital Cinema technology. The digital screening of Shrek 2 in Rave Motion Pictures, Dallas, Texas using Barco's Digital Cinema 2K projectors left patrons absolutely amazed. This experience led me to the decision to choose Barco DP30 for its no-compromise image quality, brightness and color depth. This exceptional performance combined with the benefit of local support convinced us of the decision to invest in Barco technology.’

Added Mr. Itzik Shapira, Marketing & Sales Executive Barco Israel ‘Barco Israel is delighted to support Cinematheque’s pioneering efforts in Digital Cinema. We strongly believe that their decision to install the Barco DP30 will benefit cinema in Israel as a whole, but in addition will raise the profile of Digital Cinema internationally and prove the commercial benefits of Alternative Content screenings in particular.
