Two US customers purchase Barco’s BarcoCIM system for automated sewing facilities

Recently, two of the leading manufacturers of bed and bath textiles have decided to install BARCOCIM in their automated sewing operations. The modular approach of the BARCOCIM system offers a real time solution for machine monitoring, production planning and quality management.

By automating a sewing operation, a company can greatly reduce the labor needed in what has previously been a manual process. Now that these areas of the plant are being automated, it has become more important to keep track of the production and quality level within the operation. Previously, this information was recorded manually and fed back into a manufacturing or ERP system to update inventory and planning schedules, but the need to know this information in a real time manner has become critical.

The BARCOCIM system is an extremely flexible way to monitor the operation for production, efficiency and quality. BARCOCIM can be used for towels, sheeting, comforters and all types of automated sewing. The system has been proven with several machine types including Barudan, Texpa, and Jet-Sew machines. The BARCOCIM software can be easily configured to meet the plant’s current working environment, so that the system matches the particular process in terminology, layout, calculations, etc….

With BARCOCIM’s open database concept, reports can be defined by machines, operators, technicians, styles, and orders. The user can select flexible time periods and the system features integrated graphical tools. These features allow the manager to develop accurate style standards for benchmarking each individual product and eliminating the need for expensive frequency checks. The system can normally be easily linked with the current manufacturing and ERP system, so that information is distributed to the appropriate areas quickly and accurately.

The machines in these plants are equipped with Barco’s DU8P data collection terminal. This data unit continuously monitors cycle time, run time and stop time, stop causes and counts actual production. It also allows for operator entry of quality information. The latest generation of Barco’s data units communicate wirelessly, thereby making the installation process faster and less expensive.
