Barco Federal Systems receives contract from Raytheon to support U.S. Navy SPS-73 Surface Search Radar (SSR) Program with enhanced visual display solution
Raytheon Integrated Defense Systems of Tewksbury, Massachusetts, USA has executed a new contract for low rate initial production (LRIP) with an order for 39 Barco TL-351 rugged displays to support the navigation, surface search, and surveillance operations of the U.S. Navy and Coast Guard.
Duluth, GA USA – 21 April 2011 – Visualization pioneer Barco continues to outfit U.S. ships with its industry-leading rugged displays, which have become the standard for Raytheon's AN/SPS-73 (V) navigational radar systems used in the U.S. Navy fleet. For this latest order, Barco engineers enhanced the TL-351 display to meet the requirements for day and night operations by providing superior contrast and dimming ratio.Working closely with Barco, Raytheon's AN/SPS-73 Surface Search Radar (SSR) program addresses the U.S. Navy's requirement for a flat panel display capable of operating in extremely low-light, nighttime bridge environments. Barco quickly developed a retrofitable, low-light compliant solution to meet these requirements, one that has the potential for becoming a fleet wide solution.
The TL-351 20" display offers significant benefits with respect to dimensions, ruggedization and intelligence, and is fully qualified and field proven on airborne, surface, subsurface and ground-based platforms. The TL display family combines unmatched thinness with exceptionally low weight to provide a unique, rugged display solution, especially for applications where space and weight are critical. A first-class Active Matrix Liquid Crystal Display (AMLCD), the TL-351 features superior brightness, crispness, contrast and viewing angle. Its extreme ruggedness makes it an ideal choice for the harshest environments. Its high level performance and versatility are available at a very competitive price/performance value. More than 5,000 TL-351 displays have been delivered to the U.S. military since the unit was introduced.
“We are pleased to expand our relationship with Raytheon by providing tailor-made, optimized rugged display solutions for the SSR program,” commented Ron Farine, VP Sales for Barco Federal Systems. “Our robust technologies enable precise modifications to ensure proper brightness and dimming capabilities to meet the 24/7 operational needs of these solutions.”
