Barco and EuroAvionics partner up to create cutting edge digital map display system
Farnborough International Airshow, UK, 17 July 2006 - Avionics display specialist Barco and navigation software leader EuroAvionics have announced a partnership to provide a new, cutting edge digital map solution for today’s cockpit needs. The brand-new solution combines both companies' latest hardware and software technology, providing the most powerful and versatile digital moving map package on the market.
The new digital map package can serve a complete scale of cockpit navigation needs, ranging from a standard moving map up to a full navigation and mission management system. Both the software and the hardware can be customized to meet specific aircraft or mission requirements. The innovative display system has been designed for easy integration into both helicopter and fixed wing platforms. Depending on the aircraft’s avionics architecture, the flexible system can be supplied as a stand-alone cockpit solution or as an integrated software module that is part of the aircraft’s Electronic Flight Instruments System. In a stand-alone configuration, the system combines a powerful EuroAvionics Digital Map Generator with a proven avionics display unit from Barco's CHDD family or brand-new CHDD-2000 line. Alternatively, the EuroNav V functionality can be incorporated into the Barco Electronic Flight Instrument System as a software module, thanks to the flexible, open MOSArt architecture of Barco’s avionics displays.
Barco and EuroAvionics have already booked a first order for their new solution from Ceská Letecká Servisní (CLS) in Prague. CLS, the leading avionics system integrator in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, will integrate the smart digital map solution into the W3A Sokol helicopter. A similar system will also be used in the future multi-role helicopter. CLS opted for Barco's digital map package based on its excellent display performance, flexible architecture and outstanding cost-effectiveness. Moreover, the company valued Barco's ability to meet the project's challenging delivery schedule.
