First deliveries of Barco's revolutionary imaging platform for innovative situational awareness system
KORTRIJK, BELGIUM, 12 December 2005 – Imaging specialist Barco has made the first deliveries of its revolutionary Electro-Optical (EO) sensor video processing system FLEXIVISION III. Harsh Environment Applied Technologies (H.E.A.T.) Inc., MD, USA, will integrate customized versions of Barco's imaging platform into the situational awareness systems of armored vehicles. Barco's EO sensor video processing systems feature cutting edge image warping and image fusion capabilities, which significantly enhance real-time situational awareness of the vehicle commander.
FlexiVision III is Barco's unique video imaging platform that combines visualization, networking and image processing into one fully functional system. Barco's multi-board FlexiVision III system consists of a main carrier board and various mezzanine boards that provide a variety of image enhancement functions. For integration into its innovative situational awareness system, H.E.A.T. has ordered Barco's FlexiVision III PCI carrier board along with a customized video warping and video fusion engine. H.E.A.T. especially valued Barco's ability to develop cutting edge visualization technology tailored to the company's specific needs in a very short time frame.Barco's customized FlexiVision III solution will be integrated into H.E.A.T.'s ArmorVision integrated multiple waveband sensor system for armored vehicles. The system has very high resolution fusion interconnected to Eyesafe Laser Rangefinder (ELRF) and various other sensors to provide maximum situational awareness for armored and remote vehicle systems. For this specific project, Barco has leveraged its FlexiVision III imaging platform in order to be able to warp, scale and fuse Image-Intensified Infrared (NIR I2), Midwave Infrared (MWIR) and Long-Wave Infrared (LWIR) video inputs onto a single 1280 x 1024 display.
