Barco receives a 1 million US dollar contract from Czech Air Navigation Services

ATCA, Dallas, TX, USA, 2 November 2005 – ATC visualization specialist Barco has been awarded a contract by the Air Navigation Services of the Czech Republic (ANS CR) for a nationwide license of Barco’s sophisticated development tool for operational display systems, ODS TOOLBOX. The contract encompasses the upgrade to the new ODS TOOLBOX Version 5 as well as maintenance services until 2010. The contract has a total value of USD 1 million.

ANS CR has been using the ODS TOOLBOX since 1997, when they developed their Information Display Processor (IDP) within a period of six months only. IDP is a graphic Air Traffic Control information system that is used for Area Control (ACC) and Approach Control (APP) services. With the upgrade of ODS Toolbox, ANS CR will be able to integrate modern features and components to keep up with new developments in HMI generation.

Vladimír Cízek, ANS CR expert responsible for the domain Data Processing System says: "The ODS TOOLBOX enabled us to quickly and successfully build our Information Display Processor system. We experienced the software as extremely reliable and we have always been very satisfied with Barco's cooperation and service. For the IDP planning controller, which is currently being developed by ANS CR and which is supposed to start operation in 2007, it was no question that we would continue to use the ODS TOOLBOX."

ANS CR is currently undertaking the largest development initiative ever by setting up the Integrated Air Traffic Control Center (IATCC) in Prague. With IATCC, ANS CR will establish a new air traffic control center in Jeneč at the other side of Prague-Ruzyne airport. The center will host an office building, a glazed service arcade and a service building. Both Approach and Area control services will move to this service building and operations at the IATCC are scheduled to start by the beginning of 2007.

Barco’s ODS TOOLBOX is the most widely used application toolbox for operational air traffic control display systems. It provides the tools to visualize application data, process operator interactions, and exchange information with external systems. As a true application toolbox with extensible modularity, it can be used for rapid prototyping of new HMIs, for the implementation phase and for maintenance, with complete re-use of the code.
